Developmental Directions

ECHOsi’s Key Areas of Development:

Social and Cultural Enterprise Development

ECHOsi is the enabler of alliances for collaboration and partnerships integrated in a value chain that creates sustainable benefits to communities. This includes financing for livelihood and business in development services and design innovation that creates value for livelihood products to markets access. Social and cultural enterprises are a sunrise grouping in the Philippines, so there is also a need to teach, develop managers and entrepreneurs for this new direction. Successful cases must be replicated and shared.

Economic & Social Enterprise Development

ECHOsi is the enabler of alliances for collaboration and partnerships integrated in a supply and value chain that supports social enterprises. This includes financing for livelihood and business in development services and design innovation that creates value for livelihood products for markets access. Social and cultural enterprises are a sunrise grouping in the Philippines, so there is also a need to teach, develop managers and entrepreneurs for this new direction. The programs address needs of artisans, small cooperatives and micro-entrepreneurs. These include accessing resources such as technology transfer, financial resources, training and advisory services, and markets access.

Women Economic Empowerment

ECHOstore, as a social enterprise started by three women, believes in women helping other women. Since it opened in 2008, ECHOstore products have been sourced from 75% women-led SMEs or MSMEs, cooperatives and NGO associations.  85% of the retail store costumers are women. Its unique program called GREAT Women Platform, now the gender platform of the Philippines, develops and helps women micro-entrepreneurs up the supply and value chain aided by women social entrepreneurs. Through the GREAT Women Brand (owned by the ECHOsi Foundation), products have a chance to reach international niche specialty markets.

Design & Innovation Rooted in Culture

ECHOsi’s product development and packaging directions are design and innovation driven. Interventions look at new expressions, forms and utilization of materials and ingredients while coming from local culture that supports Slow Food, Traditional crafts and textiles and indigenous peoples culture.

Cultural Preservation

ECHOsi aims at revitalizing traditions, the use and development of natural materials endemic to the areas, and innate livelihood skills while respecting indigenous and traditional knowledge, motifs and designs. Indigenous worldviews and perspectives on sustainability are integrated into livelihood programs.  This helps foster and promote local cultural specificities, customs and values.
